TitleLog Canoe
Date(1946)
DescriptionThis type of boat is modeled after those used by the Indians in Maryland waters, who cut boats from a single log. The modern canoe is made from several logs to attain greater size. Today they are used only for racing and as early as 1859 there were organized regattas held on the Eastern Shore. The boat in the picture is the Valliant Lady, formerly the Adelaide, which was built at Kent Island 85 years ago and is still being used in racing. The springboard when loaded with a crewman or two keeps the boat balanced.
