Books of Photography by A. Aubrey Bodine

Seven books of A. Aubrey Bodine photography have been published.

Five of these are organized from a regional perspective.  They collect the images celebrating the rich diversity of the local geography - Maryland, Virginia and, of course, the Chesapeake Bay. Aubrey felt a deep love for this region and saw its beauty - he allowed us to see his vision through his powerful images.

The most recent of these books, Bodine's Chesapeake Bay Country, has just been released (August 2005). For the first time in over 30 years a collection of 286 of Bodine's finest work are available in a book. Some of these images have never been seen before, and some not seen since they were originally published in the Baltimore Sunday Sunpapers.

The sixth book, Legend In His Time, is a biography written by Aubrey's editor at the Baltimore Sun Magazine, Hal Williams.  It was written shortly after Aubrey's death as a retrospective look at the life and work of a character he had grown to know quite well.

The seventh book, Baltimore Pictorialist, looks at the art of A. Aubrey Bodine with a focus on the pictorialist style which Aubrey employed so well.  It presents five decades of Aubrey's art, sets the context for pictorialism, and the effect of pictorial photography in the newspaper.

There are numerous other books illustrated with images from the A. Aubrey Bodine collection.
